Crab Feed!

Last night I went to a "Crab Feed" dinner and silent auction as a fundraiser for FPU Women's Basketball. I'm pretty sure tonight was my first time cracking my own crab....I've never cracked open the legs and dug out the meat myself. It was an experience...both Dani and I were a little hesitant at first, but it was really good so we dug in and ate more!

These 9 ladies are fierce...and beautiful...and amazing. These lovely ladies are my RA staff. We were getting ready for a Health and Wellness Workout Night on campus.... I know, I know...we are fierce...!

When There Are No Words...

Over the course of the week I've had conversations with two different students who both suddenly lost close loved ones (like they saw the person that morning and then their loved one died that night...yeah...). So the title of this blog says exactly what I was thinking while I sat and listened to these women share.

There really were no words for me to speak that could in any way, shape or form comfort or condole them in an adequate way. In these situations I've learned the Lord must take over--on my own, I have nothing of substance to give. So that was my prayer as I sat at different times and listened to each of these ladies.

It's situations like these where a somber feeling feels the air and I am reminded of many things. I am reminded of my own depravity--that I have nothing to give or say on my own, but must rely upon God for guidance, wisdom and discernment.

It probably goes without saying, but it's in these times when I am once again reminded of the frailty of life. I know that I am not promised or entitled to anything...but although I hear that and I say that I know that, for whatever reason, it's hard for me to believe. Life is incredibly fragile, and it's only when we recognize that we must be completely dependent upon God to endure the pain and complex realities of life, can we then begin to offer true comfort to others.

Ben and Jerry...

Meet Ben. This is one of my mom and dad's new kittens...


My mom and dad adopted two new kittens--Benjamin and Jeremiah, or Ben and Jerry for short. My mom liked the biblical references and my dad likes the ice cream...so it worked. They are pretty darn cute and super rambunctious!

When I Open My Door...

Since moving to a different apartment on campus a few months ago, I've learned a few things about my new place. The location of the apartment I now live in is right next to a walking gate, where many people come in and out of throughout the day (and night).

This past Tuesday I had the morning off and woke about 9:00am. It was wonderful to get a chance to sleep in a bit after three weeks of being super SUPER busy. Around 9:30am these lovely ladies stopped by to borrow some syrup for the waffles they were making. I opened my front door as they were leaving and just at that moment someone else was walking by who I hadn't had a chance to talk with in a while. So as the lovely ladies left, another visitor came in. It was about 10:00am at this time. We chatted for about an hour. Then as I opened the door again as visitor two was leaving, another person was walking by who I had been playing "Facebook Tag" with, as we had been trying to connect for a while.

As guest number two left, guest number three came in and we chatted for about 45 minutes. As it was about time for them to head out, I realized it was 11:45am and my morning was gone--and I still had not got ready for the day and I was supposed to meet D. for lunch at noon--which we did have lunch, but given all the morning visits, I wasn't ready right at noon. Oh well....I was okay with that, given that I had the chance to have some really good conversations and spontaneously catch up with people.

It was a ton of fun to chat with all of these people and get to catch up some. I love having people over to my home!

But I'm learning I just never know who might be walking by when I open my front door...given where I live...you really never know!
